At 9am of October 22nd China local time, the Tran-Pacific Express (TPE),which is invested by US telecom company Verizon Communications,mainland Chinese companies China Telecom, China Netcom and China Unicom, Korea Telecom and Chunghwa Telecom from Taiwan. the total investment add up to 500 million US dollars. the TPE project is expected to be put to use at the end of July of 2008.

TPE is the second undersea fiber optic line between China and U.S.A. the total length is up to 26 thousand kilometers, with bandwidth upto 5120Gb/s.the TPE increase the current bandwidth of the fiber optic line between U.S and China by at least 60 times.

The TPE U.S.A side is at Nedonna Beach, Oregon, and China side is at Qingdao and Chongming Island, there will be branch lines to Korea and Taiwan from the TPE,too. According one report of China <a href=http://www.sunrisephotonics.com>fiber optic cable</a> company, the TPE will dramatically increase the bandwidth in the Pacific area ,it will give important impact on China network construction,the TPE will also fulfill the work for live TV broadcast of the Olympic games in Beijing 2008. The current fiber optic cable connection from China to other countries are only in three places,Qingdao in Shandong,Chongming Island in Shanghai,Shantou in Guangdong,all data transmission between China and the outside world is from these three out-going ports.
