The 100GBASE-SR4 QSFP28 optical module is a parallel 100G optical module. The QSFP28 full-duplex optical module provides four independent transmit and receive channels, each capable of 25Gbps operation at 100 meters of the OM4 MMF, with an overall data rate of 100Gbps.
When the 100GBASE-SR4 QSFP28 optical module transmits signals at the transmitting end, the electrical signals are converted into optical signals by the laser array, and then transmitted in parallel on the strip-shaped multimode optical fibers. When reaching the receiving end, the photodetector array converts the parallel optical signals to parallel electrical signals.
The 100GBASE-SR4 QSFP28 and 100GBASE-PSM4 QSFP28 optical modules are both MTP/MPO interfaces and must be used with MTP/MPO fiber jumpers. MTP/MPO fiber jumpers on the market are now mainly 12 cores and 24 cores, while 100GBASE-SR4 QSFP28 and 100GBASE-PSM4 QSFP28 optical module shipping rate of each channel can reach 28Gpbs, only 12 core MTP/ MPO fiber jumper is just right. In addition, MTP/MPO fiber jumpers have single-mode and multi-mode fractions, MTP/MPO single-mode fiber-optic jumpers have a long transmission distance, and MTP/MPO multimode fiber jumpers are suitable for short-distance transmission. The 100GBASE-SR4 QSFP28 optical module has a transmission distance of about 100m, so it is generally used with MTP/MPO multimode fiber jumpers, and the 100GBASE-PSM4 QSFP28 optical module has a transmission distance of 500m and requires and MTP/ MPO single-mode fiber jumpers are used together.
